Luke Morley has been slap bang at the heart of 14 albums’ worth of the incredible success and enduring popularity of British hard rock heroes Thunder. Seven UK Top 10 albums and 18 Top 40 singles are spectacular stats that speak for themselves.
In recent times, Thunder have delivered no fewer than three UK top five albums in five years; not even lockdown could stand in their way with the pandemic-era All The Right Noises (2021) and the 20-song double album Dopamine (2022). That last set rode the Top 5 and the band embarked on a UK arena tour that culminated in a storming Wembley Arena show.
More recently Luke released his own record ‘Songs From The Blue Room’. The album was suffused with the usual principles of smart lyrics and infectious melodies but it also managed to wander into a few different musical territories. As a result the album reached an audience that included both Thunder fans and those who had never have listened to them previously.
Keeping it fun and challenging yourself at the same time is what Luke Morley likes best, and what he’s done in abundance throughout his career. “You have to do it as you see it, and hope enough people like it to keep you in a job,” he says with a smile. “Certainly, with Thunder, that’s always been the philosophy, and it’s the same with everything I do!”
